Who is this Jay Yellamaty fellow anyway ??? Jay Yellamaty was born and raised in Hyderabad, India. While still in the final year of high school Jay taught himself to play the guitar. A year later at age 17 and fresh out of high school Jay was performing professionally as a lead guitarist and singer with several rock bands in many of the top night clubs in India. In an effort to further his musical career Jay came to the the United States in June of 1973. He was able to land his first gig playing guitar instrumentals for the lunch time crowd at the Red Baron Restaurant in East Meadow, Long Island, New York. For the next 10 years he held a variety of day jobs, while working hard to break into the music business. He wrote and recorded demo tapes of several of his composition, two which aired on a local rock station WBAB FM. At the same time he played lead guitar in several short lived, inconsequential bands on long island. During this time Jay took some courses in audio recording technology and midi courses offered by local music stores and studios and started his own 8 track demo recording studio fully equipped with the latest ( for 1980 ) synthesizers, drum machines and a variety of outboard effects. During a trip to Tokyo in 1980 Jay bought his first video camera, a Panasonic VHS camera and recorder. Upon his return to the US, Jay enrolled in a video production course at the Nassau Tech in Bethpage, LI, where he learned camera operation, framing, video editing, multi camera switching, lighting, audio recording, field production etc” in a professional broadcast environment. By late 1980 Jay was already shooting weddings, birthday parties and other events almost every weekend in cities from Washington, DC to Boston, MA. By 1985 Jay gained a reputation as being the best in the wedding video business, and he gave up his last day job to work full time with his company Videostar. Jay’s first opportunity to venture in to broadcast multi camera production came in 1988, when the organizers of Pujya Bhaishri Rameshbhai Oza’s first ever katha in the US approached him to produce the videos of the Katha, a nine day event at the prestigious Colden Center in Queens, NY, Bhaishri’s series of lectures on Shrimad Bhagavatam was video taped using four of the latest 3 chip broadcast cameras, U-Matic video tape recorders, crosspoint latch switchers etc. Strictly state of the art for the time. Needless to say the videos were great. People who spent $ 300 per set still say it’s the best video of any of Bhaishri’s Kathas ( a real compliment considering there are hundreds of Katha Videos by Bhaishri Rameshbhai Oza. Vaishnav Temple, the organizers of the event were so impressed that Jay went on to produce dozens of events for them over the next 25 years, including Kathas by Pujya Indirabetiji and Pujya Bhupendrabhai Pandya, and Goswamy Pujya Vrajraj Maharaj ji. Jay went onto produce several more katha videos of Bhaishri over the years, including the biggest event at the Raritan Center, NJ. In 1990 Jay established his first broadcast production studios in Manhattan on the prestigious Fifth Ave, a block from the Empire State building. Several top ethnic TV shows like Bombay Broadcasting’s Cinema Cinema, Eye On Asia, Asian Panaroma, as well several mainstream media personalities like Sonny Bloch of ABC and many others were regular users of Videostar’s facilities. Our reputation as the premier multi camera field production company helped us get the contract for producing a video of Sant Shri Morari Bapu’s Ram Katha at the world famous Jacob Javits Center in NY in July, 1992. The six camera live switch field production was produced and directed by Jay. The result was a relationship with Bapu’s organization which continues to this day, and Jay went on to produce a dozen more videos of Bapu’s Kathas in cities all across the US as well as the historical “ Pushpak Ram Katha “. that was held inside a customized Tower Air Boeing 747 while traveling around the world. In 1995 Jay was hired by Telecare, the Long Island, NY, based Catholic TV network to travel to Cuba to direct and produce a documentary film about the work of Catholic Relief Services charitable work in Cuba. Jay spent two weeks in Cuba on the production. and the film “ Cuba - Holding Off The Night “ was shown on Telecare TV several times. In 2005 Jay produced a documentary film on a catholic shrine in India titled Vailankanni: The Lourdes Of The East which still airs periodically on EWTN TV Network, the global catholic television station as well as several catholic and mainstream TV channels across the US. The film received rave reviews in many catholic newspapers and continues to air on TV channels around the world. The film came to the attention of the Vatican, and Pope Benedict is said to have viewed it and had made favorable comments about the film. H2O the Vatican’s News Channel used part of the film in their own documentary film on Vailankanni. Jay is one of the most experienced and versatile video producer out there. Never one to shy away from a challenge or break under pressure. Those that work with him know he is the hardest working person on the team. Very often he is a One Man Production team, putting together a entire documentary film or TV commercial single handedly, from concept to completion. Over the years Jay has produced numerous TV Commercials, Sales and Promo videos, Music videos, TV Shows, Event videos. There is hardly a segment of the video industry that Jay was not involved in. Projects currently under various stages of development is a documentary film about the history of Hinduism, NRI America, a website featuring a weekly TV Show webcast once a week about news and entertainment of interest to the south Asian community, and a documentary film about the music of India, from it’s ancient roots in devotional music to the pulsating rhythms of modern Bollywood.
